Surviving Trauma: Finding Strength Through Shared Stories

If you’ve ever been through something that felt too big to put into words, I see you.
For a long time, I didn’t have the words to describe what I was going through. I carried shame, confusion, grief, and for years, silence. But the first step toward healing wasn’t therapy. It wasn’t even time. It was storytelling.
It began when someone listened not just to what I was saying, but to what I was trying to say. They didn’t ask me to explain it all perfectly—they just held space. And in that space, I started to find my voice.
Stories save us. Whether we hear ourselves in someone else’s pain… or finally give shape to our own. They remind us we’re not broken—we’re human.
You don’t need to be a writer to tell your story. You don’t need the “right” words. You only need the courage to begin—even if it’s just with one sentence, one memory, one truth whispered in the dark.
Your story is not too small. It’s not too messy. It’s not too late.
I know because I’ve been there. And if you’re reading this, maybe you’ve been there too.
I invite you to share your story me to either my email lee@journeyinthreesuitcases.com or Facebook page (you can also share anonymously).
Through writing is when we start to heal.
Sharing our pain is when we get stronger.
you are not alone in this journey.
I wish you love and strength,
Lee
